Eco Dabao: Enjoy Takeaways Sustainably!

Eco Dabao is a public return-and-reuse takeaway system launched across the Raffles Place district. It allows you to borrow returnable containers for takeaway meals and return them easily after use.

What makes this Programme different:
  • Public Smart Return Stations across the CBD, not limited to individual F&B outlets
  • A multi-building return network supported by participating property owners

Eco Dabao is jointly delivered by WWF-Singapore, Income Insurance, and Muuse, with foodpanda as a digital platform partner.

FAQs

Returnable packaging involves food and beverage containers/cups designed for return.

Singapore discards 265,000 tonnes of disposables in domestic waste annually, including carrier bags, takeaway containers, and cutlery (NEA, 2025). By using returnable containers/cups, there are fewer single-use containers in the landfill, less plastic in our oceans, and fewer resources are used to make new containers each time.  

  • For foodpanda users: 
    • Opt in for a returnable container at menu level when placing orders  
    • This option is available for pick‑up orders only 

 

  • For dine‑in/takeaway users: 
  1. Get your returnable container
    Order your takeaway from any participating F&B outlet and opt for a returnable container.
  2. Scan to get started
    Scan the QR code on the container with your mobile device to register/log in and start earning rewards.
  3. Enjoy your meal, then return
    When you’re done, return the container at any Smart Return Station by scanning it at the station. 
  4. Earn your rewards
    Receive rewards once your return is successfully completed.

Participation is free! No deposits or subscriptions are needed to borrow Muuse returnable containers for takeaway.

Eco Dabao is free for consumers and participating F&Bs outlets. 

The system is funded by Income Insurance as an Anchor Partner.

Muuse operates the reuse system, including technology, logistics, and washing. 

foodpanda supports digital integration but does not receive monetary compensation for this Programme. 

While you can use the returnable container without signing up, we recommend scanning the QR code and creating a Muuse account to earn rewards upon return.

These are the rewards that you can receive with your returns.

You don’t need to wash or thoroughly clean the containers before returning them. However, we strongly encourage you to empty out any remaining food or liquid to help prevent odours and pests.

As this is a shared, community initiative, we appreciate everyone doing their part to keep the system clean and pleasant for all.


Yes. The system is designed with safety and hygiene in mind.

  • Smart Return Stations use a sealed, QR‑activated flap that only opens for verified returns
  • This prevents users from inserting unapproved items or disposing of food waste
  • All used containers are collected on a weekly basis
  • All containers are professionally washed and sanitised at a licensed centralised facility

The system is designed to minimise pest risks:

  • Smart Return Stations are fully sealed and only open for QR‑verified returns
  • Openings are restricted to prevent food waste from being inserted
  • Fill‑level alerts are sent to Muuse to trigger timely collection

Stations are monitored in real time to ensure they are emptied regularly.

  • Muuse receives live fill-level alerts from each station
  • Collections are triggered based on these alerts to ensure timely servicing

If a station is full, you can return your container at the nearest available Smart Return Station.

● There are 2 types of returnable food containers that will be provided: Plastic clamshell and soup bowls to cater to the different food items.
● Returnable cups will be provided for both hot and cold drinks.

Returnable containers come in green and white to differentiate between Halal (green) and Non-halal (white), and will be handled and washed separately as per regulations.

We’ve aligned with MUIS Halal guidance and follow strict protocols. Separate containers are used for Halal and non-Halal food. All items are returned closed, then separated and processed in dedicated Halal and non-Halal washing streams.

All containers and cups are suitable for hot and cold food items and beverages.  

 

Muuse containers and cups are made from durable, food-grade plastic (polypropylene), designed for both hot and cold food and drinks.

• Reusable up to 1,000 times
• Dishwasher and microwave safe
• Lightweight, durable, and safe for everyday use
• Recycled locally in Singapore at end of life

Polypropylene is a widely used, food-safe material commonly found in reusable food containers.

Frequent quality checks will be conducted and containers will be replaced if they are found to be damaged.

Muuse is a smart platform for returnable packaging, replacing single-use with reusable systems. Through a combination of infrastructure, operations, and technology, Muuse makes it simple for businesses and consumers to adopt reuse at scale — with seamless return experiences, real-time data, and measurable environmental impact.

User privacy is protected, and we minimise personal data collection. This programme complies with Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA).

• Return stations only track container IDs — not personal information — and no personal data is stored on the stations themselves.
• Only users who opt in for rewards create an account, with data handled in line with PDPA.
• Muuse manages all data securely, and users can request deletion at any time.
